Marvelous Monday!

It's Marvelous Monday again and today I am thankful for this teeny tiny bougainvillea of mine.

It's such a wee little plant, and since I brought it home from the plant nursery, it has dropped flower after flower!  I don't think it quite likes the environment I've given it so I'm trying to decide where to relocate it in the hopes of getting more of those lovely bright pink blooms back.

But in spite of its insignificant size and somewhat miserable appearance, I still love my little bougainvillea because it reminds me of one of my favourite vacations to a lovely little island in Greece where the bougainvillea grows riotously and with picturesque abandon against blue and white doors...

And lovely stone buildings ....

And just around the corner of a twisting cobblestone passageway ....

And breathtaking in its beauty with the bright Aegean sun against the pristine white-washed walls....

And where my mother is right now, sitting on a sun-drenched terrace, hopefully enjoying a well-deserved break under the glorious bougainvillea for which my little plant will only ever be a sentimental reminder.

  1. Am I supposed to guess which island? Paros? Myconos? I hope your wee little bougainvillia grows long enough to bridge over the distance from Canada to that beautiful little island (at least in your mind).

PS Tell us next time you're here!

  2. No guessing games required Purple Cow! The island is Tinos. Although I'm sure all the Greek islands are absolutely lovely, Tinos is the most peaceful place I have ever been in my whole life. :)

  7. I love bougainvillas. Those are lovely, colorful pictures. I think the flower must be picky about climate, though, given your little one doesn't want to spread out and grace your walkway.
Cheers, and thank you for the sweet comment.

  8. Tinos! Nice island! Also a very spiritual place to be. Nice choice. Yesterday (Monday) was also the longest day of the year - summer solstice! (And of course the International Day of music).

Take care Ro...looking forward to your next post.

  9. Such a lovely post! Bougainvilleas need to have well drained soil. They don't like to be sitting in water. I water mine just as I start seeing it about to droop, every so slightly. That seems to keep it happy. They also like the sun. I hope it starts blooming again for you soon.

  10. Oh my goodness! Thank-you Barbara!!! I have been flooding the poor thing with water because every time it drops another flower, I have felt guilty. No wonder the poor thing is dropping more flowers! Okay ... I shall stop over-watering it immediately and hopefully it will get better. Thanks for the advice. :)
